Is it my fault I'll be here 5 years?
These days if you graduate in four years, you're outside of the norm! Personally, I've taken full loads every semester but won't be able to get out in 4. I have 15 hours left, but one of the remaining classes is only offered once a year however, which happens to be in the spring. I couldn't get into that class due to a prerequisite forcing me to stay another semester. Nobody caught this problem early enough, and now there is nothing I can do about it. I hated telling my parents what happened, since it all boiled down to having an extra semester's worth of tuition to pay. My plan is to work nearly full time next year at the engineering firm I'm employed with now, and split my hours evenly through both semesters. This well help a lot with the bills of an extra semester and has turned my situation into something not all that bad. But I hear about this kind of thing all the time, and feel for the students who don't have a backup plan with what to during this added semester. Who is responsible for this? Should it be the advisors job to catch these mistakes before they happen? I realize responsibility should be taken upon by the student, and do not blame anyone but myself for my situation. However detailed information about every class that is required to refrain from this occurrence can be hard to find. What can be done, if anything, to keep this from happening to students in the future?

Life would suck without weekends
How much harder would life be without weekends? If you are those people who have to work during weekends and don't get a break, I respect and feel sorry for you! I love waking up saturday with no classes, work, or obligations to worry about. Roll out of bed a couple hours later, throw on the robe, and think of what you get to do today. Catch up on school, finish some chores, relax with some t.v., or whatever you damn well please really. Being at Western, some choose to follow the typical "suitcase college" lifestyle, I for one am not a big fan of, and take themselves home. For me, I have too many things to catch up on leftover from the week usually, and when I find a free weekend open, I like to reward myself with a weekend at home with my girl Maggie. Okay it's my dog but I must say she can be better than girlfriends in most cases! Haha. Okay not all the time but it's a good substitute.

Behind the scenes of Sigma Chi Boxing
Yea that's right, it's already here! Sigma Chi Fight Night, the best philanthropic event on WKU's campus hands down! A night filled with great fights, sexy ring girls, and $1 beers. What else could you want? Oh yea that's right.. GIRL FIGHT!! Cause we got that too. But getting everything together for this is quite a different story. I was the boxing chair for the event last year and somewhat of a co-boxing chair this year. While the night of the event is nothing short of nuckin futs, getting everything together can be borderline nightmare. Doing everything from talkin to lawyers and city officials to getting piss drunk and keeping the ring-side table buyers happy, it's quite a responsibility! Last year I saw over $18,000 worth of credits pass through my fingers, 56 kegs get floated, and had to check four pregnancy test.. Luckily none of which I had to be concerned with. It's quite a headache, and I cannot wait for the event to get here! Cause once those doors open on Thursday night, it's game time.... or fight time whatever

SNOW DAY!!!!
As much as I love snow days now, there's nothing like anticipation of a snow day in high school! Some wait up til midnight glued to the polar report on TV, some go to the local sledding hot spot and get in some fresh powder on the slopes, but everyone got yelled at by their mom for staying up too late those mornings when they pulled a quick one on ya and didn't cancel school. But when they did oh boy was it great! I grew up on a farm so was one of the lucky few in Kentucky(yeah right) who got to go four-wheeling on snow days. Sure hills are cool, but nothin beats ridin behind a four-wheeler on a tube! I guess college snow days aren't as exciting because they NEVER happen!! I mean walks up the hill on icy days is brutal!! Although you do see some pretty comical falls throughout the day, it's usually just not worth the walk for class.. Well hopefully I won't have to make that decision tomorrow morning and Big G(Gary Ransdell) will do it for me

I'm all for tradition, but lets try Superbowl Saturday?
I realize NFL football and sunday is like Mike and Scotty, beans and cornbread, Conan and Jay Leno, Tiger and text messages!!!! Okay I'll stop but by far my least favorite monday of the year is the one after the superbowl. The regular season doesn't require the pregame preperation, both mentally and socially, that the superbowl does. Well me, I took the smoking route and smoked a big fat pork butt(had ya for a sec), had some friends over for pregame darts and drinking, and enjoyed the game. Now I'm overstuffed, unmotivated towards school work, and not prepared for class tomorrow. Nothing gets you ready for school the next day like eating way too much, losing your small pay check to "friendly wagers", and going to some an aftergame party you didn't exactly plan on right? Not exactly.. A day to rest and recoorperate would be very appreciated. That way maybe I won't be turning in blogs 2 hours before the assignments due!

School's in-session
I don't know what it is about it. It's not really the work. Class isn't too bad, but I just hate school! I never realized it really, it just hit me when I was working over 40 hours a week one summer and would much rather have kept working instead of attending classes. Maybe I just don't like the fact that I have to go to all these classes, study for all these tests, and work on all these projects, when I could work under an engineer(which is my major, civil engineering) and get 10 times more out of every week rather than being in school. I do understand the argument for it giving you a more well-rounded education, but isn't that what high school is for?... Well regardless I guess there's nothing I can do about not liking school if I want the diploma, so give it your best shot and make the most of it!
